MICROSCOPY
Optical microscopy is used to magnify objects, such as cells and tissue structures. View more information here. Electron microscopy measures cell structures and morphology with resolution of 50pm compared with 200nm of optical microscopy. Both Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) are available at UCSD NCMIR. Fei Titan 80-300 IVEM/STEM provides excellent TEM images of biological samples. The Zeiss Merlin SEM and others are available for SEM imaging.
FLOW CYTOMETRY
The Flow Cytometry Core is for research projects requiring cell sorting and/or analysis of cell populations by flow cytometry. View more information here.
PROTEIN ANALYSIS
LJIDI has shared equipment for routine Western Blotting, magnetic immunoprecipitations, and gel staining for protein (Commassie, silver, and Sypro). View more information about it here.
WHOLE ANIMAL IMAGING
Whole animal imaging (e.g., Positron Emission Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computer Aided Tomography, Fluorescence or Luminesence Imaging, Intravital Microscopy) is widely available in San Diego. Dual IACUC approvals are obtained from LJIDI and the host institute. The rodent PET imager is GE eXplore Vista DR (UCSD In Vivo Imaging; Dr. David Vera, Director). View more information here.
